Masa Sushi Restaurant Review by Cody

Whenever I get an opportunity to check out a new sushi restaurant in Calgary, I take full advantage of it. You could say I am a sushi connoisseur of some sorts because I take my sushi very, very seriously!

A friend who lives in Cougar Ridge wanted to take me out to Masa Sushi. He said it was a good sushi spot in the Westside, and after my experience I now second his recommendation!

Atmosphere & Service

Inside of Masa Sushi you’ll find a contemporary atmosphere with an open kitchen, a trademark of most sushi restaurants you’ll go to almost anywhere.

The table spacing and seating were both comfortable and had the menu’s ready to go. We noticed the insane lunch specials (from 11:30am to 4:00pm) that Masa was offering, but I’ll touch on that a bit later in this review.

Our server was very friendly and helpful with introducing us to special menu items as well as the specials they had for the day. He highlighted the crazily affordable lunch specials, of which once again we will touch on below!

Overall, our server was on point when it came to drink top-offs and asked us conveniently if there was anything else he could do when we needed napkins or more tea.

Our Foodmasa sushi westside calgary restaurant review

Masa House Special Roll – $13.99 – 8 pcs – salmon, tobiko, tempura prawn, avocado, cucumber, spicy sauce

The first time to a sushi restaurant you just got to try the house special roll!

We really enjoyed Masa’s take, a nice balance between salmon and flying fish flavours with a delightful texture change after crunching into the cucumber with a rush of fresh avocado for aftertaste. We recommend this dish!

Tiger’s Eye – $14.99 – 10 pcs – deep fried with imitation crab, tobiko, cucumber, avocado, salmon and sweet spicy sauce

The Tiger’s eye role caught our ‘eye’ as we glanced the menu. You don’t often see a deep-fried roll offered at many sushi restaurants in Calgary, so we decided to try it out.

It’s as you would expect… a delicious sushi roll but fried to perfection so that every bite you take falls effortlessly into your mouth with an addictive crunchy taste.

We really liked the blend of crab, salmon and tobiko mixed in with the deep-fried texture and taste – another must try at Masa.

Tuna & Salmon Sashimi – $2.09 per slice – Now $1.59 – Lunch Specialmasa sushi salmon sashimi roll

Another lovely lunch special at Masa is the incredibly cheap sashimi! We got 6 pieces of tuna and salmon sashimi each for under $20.00.

Considering that this sashimi tasted fresh and was up to par on quality – that’s an unbeatable price!

As a matter of fact, Masa had a lunch special menu with 25 different items on it almost all of which were under $10.00 (see photo

Edamame – Was $5.99 – Now $4.99 – Lunch Special

One of the several lunch specials Masa offers is no other than edamame, a staple appetizer to any sushi sitting.

I couldn’t notice anything different about Masa’s edamame compared to other restaurants around town – a bit salty, but tasty and flavourful.
