Truman Homes has announced a very exciting development coming soon to the Westside of the city. Called West District, this new community is poised to fit right into a large plot of undeveloped land located between 77th Street to the east, 85th Street to the west, Old Banff Coach Road to the north and West Springs to the south.
If you’re familiar with the Westside, chances are you’ve noticed this plot of land driving by on 85th Street or Old Banff Coach Roach. It’s somewhat of an anomaly in an otherwise booming part of Calgary, but that’s all poised to change soon!
So what is the West District all about? Here are 10 things we know so far about this exciting new up and coming master-planned neighbourhood by Truman Homes.
You can bet your apples that there will be a healthy mix of residential, retail and some commercial space in the newly approved neighbourhood. Expect to see most of the residential buildings along the main street of the community with bottom-floor amenities.
Just how big is 70 acres of land? Big enough to fit approximately 53 NFL football fields. There’s even going to be a Central Park in the neighbourhood, just like in New York City!
The West District will be a mix of single-family and multi-family homes, with several townhome and mid-rise condominium developments.
Gateway is the first multi-family projects to be announced, a mid-rise condo building featuring one bedroom units to three bedroom penthouses and everything in between. Learn more here:
The introductory condo building mentioned above has units preselling in the $300’s. Expect to see the prices for single-family and townhome units higher than this.
At more than 8 acres in size, the West District’s central park will provide ample opportunity for leisure and recreation of all sorts in the heart of the community.
Whether it be skating during the winter or live performances at the amphitheatre during the summer, this green space is your little oasis just steps away from home!
A mixed-use community has to have amenities! Truman Homes have decided on a main strip that would be complete with a coffee shop, grocery store, restaurants and much, much more!
This will provide some level of walkability to those who choose the West District as their new community!
Included in the West District’s master plan is the existing strip mall located just off the corner of 85th Street and Old Banff Coach Road SW.

The City of Calgary is much thinner east to west than it is north to south. This is a huge bonus for people who live in the Westside area as getting to and from downtown take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes or so depending on traffic.
This can’t be said for communities in the far north or deep south of the city, where you can expect to take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to reach the city core.
